Causes of Prolapse of the uterus

Weakness or stretching of the supporting ligaments, and weakness of the muscles that form the floor of the pelvis, may allow the uterus to descend.

On top of this is the fact that these structures may get stretched and become permanently longer during pregnancy. Prolapse often does not occur until after the menopause, when post-menopausal genital atrophy is common.
