Relapsing fever

Relapsing fever is an infection with a spiral-shaped germ (spirochete), transmitted from person to person by the bite of a louse or a tick. It causes acute attacks, occurring in cycles, with normal intervals in between.

The condition is very rare in Britain. Tick-borne relapsing fever occurs from time to time in the western USA, and is endemic (occurs commonly) in Ethiopia.
