Treatment of Respiratory tract infection

Nasal congestion can be relieved by short-term use of decongestant drops or sprays. Using them for more than five days increases the risk of a rebound effect, where congestion gets worse than ever when the decongestant is stopped.

Cough mixtures can help reduce a violent cough, although not everyone gets relief from them.

URTIs are not treated with antibiotics unless there are clear signs of bacterial infection.
