Treatment of Restricted growth
Mucopolysaccharide conditions (eg Morquio’s Disease) can be treated using special techniques to reduce the damaging effects of enzyme deficiency and subsequent chemical build-up in the bones and muscle groups.
Treatment can be offered to people with hormone deficiencies, in order to redress the balance. Conditions such as Turner Syndrome often respond well to this, resulting in an increased growth rate and improved health of the reproductive organs.
Early and adequate management of chronic conditions such as lung disease, heart disease or arthritis, can minimise any detrimental effect on growth. Some people have operations to lengthen the bones once they reach adulthood.
