Diagnosis of Reye's syndrome
This is based on the clinical findings and tests of liver and brain function.
Blood tests will be carried out to determine whther the liver is working well. It may also be necessary to have a liver biopsy, when a small sample of the liver is removed for examination.
An EEG test looks at the electrical activity in the brain and an MRI or CT scan will show any inflammation (swelling) in the brain.
