What to do of Rosacea
Lifestyle changes/hints and tips
Changes in your lifestyle are important in the successful treatment of rosacea.
You can often avoid flare-ups that are due to increased blood flow to the cheeks. Here are some tips to help keep flare-ups to the minimum
- Do not rub, scrub or massage the face, which can irritate the skin. Gently apply all soaps, moisturisers, sunscreens and other products.
- Use a moisturiser to soothe the skin if it feels sore.
- Avoid hot drinks, spicy foods, and alcoholic drinks.
- Identify your triggers and avoid them.
- Protect your skin from the sun by using a sunblock cream with a high protection factor (15 or higher and with UV A and B protection) on the face when out in strong sunlight. A wide brimmed hat also helps to protect the face from the sun.
- Try not to become overheated. Avoid hot baths and showers. Try to exercise where it is cool.
- Have a drink of cool or iced water if you are flushed, it may help to settle it down.
- Protect your face from the wind and cold by covering it with a scarf when you are outside
- Do not use oil-based make-up, scented soaps, alcohol based skin cleansers or other facial or hair products that might contain ingredients, such as alcohol and fragrances, which irritate the skin.
- If you are under emotional stress, you may find it helpful to take time out, even if only for five minutes. Try to relax and calm yourself down by slow, deep breathing.
