Diagnosis of Rubella

The symptoms of rubella take two to three weeks to appear after infection.

Your GP will probably be able to tell you have rubella from your symptoms. Some rashes that look like a rubella rash might be something else, such as another viral infection. Your GP may do a blood test to confirm the diagnosis of rubella.

Doctors have to notify the local authority of all suspected cases of rubella.
