Symptoms of SARS
Early symptoms are similar to those of flu, but then more serious symptoms develop. People going to an area where SARS has been previously reported, or returning from an infected area should remain aware of the symptoms. The main symptoms is a high temperature or fever (over 38C), and one or more of the following:
- cough
- breathing difficulties,
- shortness of breath
SARS may be associated with other symptoms including headache, muscular stiffness or pain (myalgia), loss of appetite, malaise, confusion, rash and diarrhoea.
People experiencing typical SARS symptoms while in a SARS affected area, or within 10 days of being in an affected area, should contact their GP or phone NHS Direct 0845 4647 without delay.
