Causes of SARS
A collaboration of international scientists and the World Health Organization (WHO) now believe that the cause of SARS is a previously unknown form of a type of virus which they have called SARS coronavirus (SARS CoV).
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause respiratory infections. They are the second most common cause of the common cold (after rhinoviruses), but the virus associated with SARS is a new type not seen before.
