Scarlet fever

Scarlet fever is an infectious disease caused by a type of bacteria known as haemolytic streptococci. It is quite rare in the UK. It usually affects children, but people of any age can catch it.

Although scarlet fever used to be a very serious disease, most cases today are quite mild.

If you think your child has scarlet fever, it’s a good idea to consult your GP.
