Treatment of Scarlet fever
Most mild cases of scarlet fever will go away in about a week or so even without treatment.
However, the common treatment for scarlet fever is a short course of antibiotics. This will usually be penicillin taken by mouth. If your child is allergic to penicillin, then the antibiotic erythromycin can be used instead.
It is a good idea for the person with scarlet fever to drink plenty of fluids, especially if they have little appetite.
Paracetamol can also be taken to bring down the fever.
