Complications of Scarlet fever
The vast majority of cases of scarlet fever have no complications at all. Very occasionally, one of the following complications occurs:
- ear infection
- kidney inflammation,
- or rheumatic fever (which causes pain in the joints)
It’s a good idea to watch out for any symptoms that might suggest these complications in the first few weeks after the main infection has cleared up.
One episode of scarlet fever usually gives immunity to further infection, however recurring attacks do happen in rare case due to different forms of toxin that can cause infection.
