Symptoms of Scurvy

Bleeding can occur into any of the tissues of the body. This is most obvious in the skin, which may show widespread bruising. Gums bleed, teeth loosen and recently healed wounds may break down. Bleeding into muscles and joints causes much pain.

The condition is even more serious in children, who tend also to bleed into the membranes surrounding the long bones. This may cause the growing ends of the bones to separate, interfering with body growth.
