Complications of Sickle-cell anaemia

Complications can occur later in life as a result of accumulated tissue damage from repeated sickling crises. They include:· 

  • Kidney failure· 
  • Permanent bone damage· 
  • Bone infection (osteomyelitis)· Leg ulcers· 
  • Excess iron deposits in the body· 
  • Areas of lung damage, which make breathing difficult
