Diagnosis of Sjogren's syndrome
This may be suspected from the symptoms, but a complete diagnosis requires blood tests to confirm the presence of antibodies that attack normal body tissue (autoantibodies).
There will be many immune complexes circulating in the blood - these are groups of antibodies attached to the cells that have abnormally prompted their production.
It is possible to check the dryness of the eyes with a simple test using thin paper strips to absorb tears.
