Snoring

Snoring is a noise caused by vibration of the soft palate (the back of the roof of the mouth) when a current of air passes over it during breathing through the open mouth while asleep. Anything which prevents normal breathing through the nose may contribute to snoring and may have to be corrected if the snoring is to be cured.

Although snoring is often joked about, some people's snoring seriously disturbs their bed-partner and may cause loss of sleep (see Sleep apnoea).
