Sprains
Sprains are stretching injuries of ligaments that hold together bones, usually those of a joint. A sprained ankle, for instance, is an injury to one of the ligaments that holds the upper foot bone (the talus) securely in place between the lower ends of the two bones of the lower leg (the tibia and fibula).
The severity of the injury varies from a minor stretching that may soon recover fully to a major tear that makes the bony link unstable.
