Symptoms of Stings, marine creatures

If a weever fish or stingray stings you, you will experience intense pain lasting for about two hours. Your foot may swell up and go red for a couple of days. The spines of the fish may remain in your skin and will need to be removed. You may also experience symptoms such as low blood pressure, slow breathing, nausea, and sweating.

If a Portuguese man-of-war stings you it will be very painful. You may have other more serious symptoms, such as stomach pain, muscle paralysis difficulty breathing and fits.

If you experience swelling or itching anywhere else on the body immediately after being stung, or wheezing, feeling faint, a fast heart rate, difficulty swallowing, a swollen face or mouth you should call 999 for an ambulance immediately. You may be having a generalised allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) and this can be fatal.
