Diagnosis of Syphilis
A swab is used to take a sample of the fluid from an ulcer (pus) and tested for the presence of the bacteria if ulcers are present. Alternatively, a blood test can detect the infection.
If you suspect you may have syphilis you should see your GP or local genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinic without delay.
All diagnosis and treatment is free and confidential.
