Diagnosis of Toxocariasis
Diagnosis is based on the symptoms and on repeated blood tests for rising levels of antibodies to toxocara.
Misdiagnosis of infestation is now rare, as toxocariasis is well understood. Tests, such as the ELISA (enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay) test, can point to the correct diagnosis. Taken in combination with other clinical and laboratory findings, this test now enables doctors to make the diagnosis with considerably more confidence.
