Prevention of Transient ischaemic attack
TIAs generally happen without warning, but having one TIA is a sign that others may follow. These may have more serious effects or develop into a full, life-threatening stroke.
Preventing or controlling the factors that contribute to TIAs can reduce the likelihood of further attacks. This includes:
- Eating a low cholesterol diet.
- Taking regular moderate exercise.
- Stopping smoking.
- Losing excess weight.
- Drinking alcohol in moderation only.
- Treating underlying conditions such as high blood pressure.
