Tuberous sclerosis
Tuberous Sclerosis (TS) is a genetic disorder. It is sometimes refered to as Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). It can affect people in different ways and to different degrees. Many people with TS have very mild symptoms and live normal, healthy lives.
The name comes from growths that form on the brain which look like rounded swellings (tubers). Over time, there is a build up of calcium salts and these growths become hard (sclerotic).
Some people are so mildly affected that the condition is never diagnosed. It is estimated that there are around 8,000 people with TS in the UK.
