Vaginismus is where the muscles around the vagina tighten (contract) involuntarily. This is usually in response the the vagina or vulva being touched during sexual intercourse or during a gynaecological examination. In some cases, this can be quite painful.

Vaginismus can stop or disrupt your sex life and make gynaecological examinations difficult.
