Causes of Vaginismus
The causes of vaginismus seem to vary and are not fully understood. It is likely that many women experience it at some stage in their lives.
Some cases appear to have a physical cause such as an injury or inflamation of the vagina or bladder or vaginal dryness. Vaginismus has also been linked to fear or dislike of sex and may be related to difficult or painful sexual intercourse (known as dyspareunia).
