Uveitis Uveíte

Uveitis is the general name given to an inflammation of part of the uveal tract of the eye. Uveíte geral é o nome dado a uma inflamação da parte do tracto uveal do olho. The uveal tract is a group of connected structures inside the eye, made up of the iris (coloured part of the eye), the ciliary body (ring of muscle behind the iris) and the choroid (layer of tissue that supports the retina). O tracto uveal está ligado a um grupo de estruturas no interior do olho, constituído pelos íris (parte colorida do olho), o corpo ciliar (anel de músculo por detrás da íris) e os coróides (camada de tecido que suporta a retina).

There are different types of uveitis, depending on which part of the eye is affected: Existem diferentes tipos de uveíte, dependendo de qual parte do olho é afetado:

  • Anterior uveitis - inflammation of the iris (iritis) or inflammation of the iris and the ciliary body (iridocyclitis).
